Bo and I grew up with families that farmed. Over time the bug hit us and we decided it was something that we wanted to continue with our family.
In 2016, we bought our home nestled in the hills of Carroll County, Ohio and next to Bo’s parents. His parents. along with his uncle and aunt, own 80+ acres. In most recent years it has been used for grain farming.
After a few years of renovating our “fixer-upper” and getting settled into home ownership, gardens, chickens and more babies, we decided it was time to start our farming dreams. This is when Brinker Cattle Company started to be built.
In the spring of 2022, as we had just welcomed our 6th baby, Bo and I started pursing the EQIP Grant. In order to start the application process we had to have some pasture and cows. So, Bo and his dad put in new fence in an old pasture at the edge of our property. After that was completed Eliza and Bo headed to our local sale barn and came home with 2 breeding age heifers.
Within the next couple months we found out we had been approved for the EQIP Grant. EQIP stands for Environmental Quality Incentives Program. Each grant can have some variations , however for us the grant has helped us to put up permanent pasture around 30 acres, install permanent waters within those pastures, a cement pad that is in our winter pasture and a few other things to help us Rotationally Graze our herd. At this point, Jan 2025, we have one more fencing project to finish then all the structural parts of the grant will be fulfilled and we will be onto managing our grazing throughout the pastures.
It has been such a blessing to have the Grant available to us. We look forward to sharing that blessing with our community as we grow and provide Prime Quality Beef that will be available starting Fall 2025.
