Farm Updates and BEEF PREORDERS!

I have had this newsletter ready for the end of December and here we are almost at the end of January.

After the holidays we got into project mode. We painted some walls, added some shelves to a closet and have been slowly make changes and updates to our website, including BEEF PREORDERS! (more on that at the end)

Farm Updates

This past year we added more water systems and additional pastures. We were able to start rotating our cows on last year’s pastures and sent off steers to be butchered. We had 7 new calves this year, including a set of twins!

The guys took on additional farm land, built a grain bin and worked on putting in a new water line for our new pastures.

In August, we hosted the Eastern Ohio Grazing Council. We welcomed around 60 people to walk through our newly established pastures after years of grain farming. It was great to hear from other like minded people and to get some advice on how to help the pastures grow into the forage areas we hope them to be!

This year we will have one more permanent pasture to put in, then all our pasture work will be completed! The farmer that offered us additional land to rent last year has welcomed us back to farm again this year.

Bo and I reevaluated our garden spaces and decided that we don’t need to use all of it. We have red raspberries growing along the back row, the remainder of that row I started planting asparagus and hope to finish out the row with more this year. Our hope is to add in more perennial plants in the back half of the garden and keep the front half and hoop house for our annuals (lots of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and more ).

We got bowls and bowls of raspberries last year!

January 18th Bo surprised me with a trip to Lake Metroparks Farmpark for there Homesteading event. We learned some helpful tips for making maple syrup, listened in to a speaker discuss timelines for growing animals for meat production and then got to sit in on a discussion on Rotationally grazing by Joel Salatin!

We had a wonderful time! I am so grateful for the surprise ❤️
