When a Boy Becomes a Man (why role models are so important)

This week I took the boys (14 years old and 10 months) to pick up a chicken pen for our broiler chickens so we could have them out on grass. Let me just say how proud of a Mom I am of that teenage boy!

I was having a hard time navigating a turn at the farm supply store. That teenager jumped out to move a pallet so I could make the turn. Then he helped the store employees load the sides of the coop into the bed of our truck.

Once we were loaded and out of the inventory section of the store, he got right to work strapping the pen so we wouldn’t have to worry about it while we drove down the road.

He did all of that without me saying a single word!! He seen action was needed and got straight to work!

That made me think of the role models this young man has had in his life thus far. The men and women that have invested in his life from day one until now, is numerous. I am forever grateful! When I think of the people that have touched his life so far, whether it was reading a story when he was a baby, sending a card, asking how he is doing, or teaching the more complex life lessons that come with age, they have all shaped a child to be a positive adult.

While this season is a busy one, I don’t want to forget to take the time to invest in all our children’s lives. And you can do this also. All you have to do is send a simple card. You never know how it will impact them in the future.

Until Next Time,

Julie
